Heiko Lang did it. If I remember right, he said they just unscrew, then he cut off part of the spring.

I bought the short struts from Hal; but, I'm also going to shorten my shocks, so I can run it either way.
When I had my BSA, I had 1 end of the shock springs compressed & heated, which dropped the rear end significantly.
